Current Issue
October, 2011
Welcome to the October edition of the South East Bay Pediatrics’ Newsletter. In this issue we will focus on back to school topics. We will address good homework habits, good backpack hygiene, safe travel, bullying, Flu vaccines, sport injuries, and how to pack a nutritious lunch. We will dedicate the Adolescent Corner of our newsletter to adolescent mental health. Anxiety will be discussed in this quarter’s issue.
We would like to remind you to get the Flu vaccine for your loved ones. You can schedule an appointment for your child online. We will also discuss the importance of receiving the flu vaccine.
As most of you know by now, the Tdap (whooping cough) vaccine has become a requirement for all adolescents before entering 7th grade. Our practice has noticed that a few of our patients have received this vaccine at their neighborhood pharmacies. While South East Bay Pediatrics does not object to this practice, we have noticed that many of our adolescents have unnecessarily received an extra dose of the vaccine at the pharmacy while they were already immunized. In order to prevent our parents from paying twice and our patients from being needlessly vaccinated twice, we encourage parents to call us and check their child’s immunization status. If the child has already been vaccinated, we will provide you with proof of vaccination for your school, if your child has not been vaccinated, our staff will let you know and you can decide where to vaccinate your loved one.
